Trump slammed for throwing insults at the media in the wake of attempted terror attack in NYC

President Donald Trump is receiving backlash for attacking the "failing" New York Times shortly after being briefed on an attempted terror attack in New York City Monday.

The president reportedly received word of the pipe bomb explosion in an underground subway passage spanning from Times Square to the Port Authority Bus Terminal less than an hour after the 7:20 a.m. incident.

".@POTUS has been briefed on the explosion in New York City," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced on Twitter at 8:13 a.m.

Roughly an hour later, the president took to Twitter to accuse the Times of falsely reporting that he watches 4-8 hours of television a day.

“Another false story, this time in the Failing @nytimes, that I watch 4-8 hours of television a day - Wrong! Also, I seldom, if ever, watch CNN or MSNBC, both of which I consider Fake News. I never watch Don Lemon, who I once called the "dumbest man on television!" Bad Reporting,” he tweeted.

The president's message prompted a strong reaction from many on Twitter who criticized Trump for targeting the publication in the wake of the attempted attack.

"Think about this: there was a terror attack in NYC this morning. Trump’s home. And he tweets about Don Lemon before the terror attack. This is not a well man," one person tweeted, while another wrote: "A major explosion in NYC and Trump is griping about the NYT and Don Lemon? What a deplorable human being.... Yes, deplorable."
