Truly Crying at How Thing's Scenes on 'Wednesday' Were Filmed

At this point, I can only assume you've watched all of Wednesday and are fully in love with Thing. Like, truly never thought I'd be jealous over not having a disembodied hand as my best friend, but here we are.

As for who plays Thing, that would be magician Victor Dorobantu. In other words, nope: Thing was not the product of CGI, which is probably why he was so damn lovable.

So, how did filming Thing's scenes work, exactly? Netflix released behind-the-scene photos of Victor and Jenna Ortega working on the show, featuring Victor in a "blue screen" body suit covering every inch of his body except for his hand, aka THE STAR. Meanwhile, he also wore a prosthetic severed wrist for good measure.

"The whole process was very hard. Thing was created from scratch," Victor told PopSugar during the Wednesday red carpet. "We just improvised and we tried to make it natural."

Meanwhile, Jenna revealed to Screen Rant that creator Tim Burton wanted Thing to be played by an actual actor, just like he was in the '90s film. "We'd shoot some stuff with him, and other times we would shoot with absolutely nothing there," Jenna explained. "We'd shoot with the stand-in hand there; never did the tennis ball. I was either working with an actor and responding to him or I was looking at nothing."

When it comes to Thing's "personality" and communication skills, Jenna said “It was so funny because the Thing language was just made up on the day. Every day we’d show up and go, Ahhh…That looks right. I feel like I kind of know what he’s saying.'”
