Happy New Years Eve Lakewood! Let's get you all caught up to start today off with what's happening in and around Lakewood. 2021 kicked off with an insurrection, and goes out with wildfires that destroy hundreds of homes in Boulder County, a new COVID-19 virus that's spreading fast and a shooting spree that takes the lives of five people. Here are the top stories today in Lakewood:

  1. "Everything is gone," says Mom who fled her Superior home with 2 sons. Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle said during a news conference Thursday evening that 370 homes were destroyed in the Sagamore neighborhood and more than 200 additional homes may have been lost in Old Town Superior and many more in Lousiville. (CO Sun)

  2. Truck driver in I-70 crash prison sentence reduced to 10 years instead of 110. Gov. Jared Polis has commuted the sentence of the truck driver that crashed into traffic on Interstate 70 in 2019 that killed four people. Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos will now serve 10 years in prison instead of his original sentence of 110. (CPR)

  3. Friends and family remember victims killed in Monday's shooting spree. Following multiple shootings Monday evening that ended with six people dead, including the suspect, and three injured in Denver and Lakewood, family and friends are starting to share their memories of the victims. (7News)

  4. Rolling blackouts in Mountains and San Luis Valley due to Boulder County wildfire.Xcel said the outages in Summit, Grand, Lake, Eagle, Saguache, Rio Grande and Alamosa counties will last about 60 minutes. (CO Sun)

  5. As year closes, Colorado Governor grants 1,351 pardons for marijuana possession. The individuals who received these convictions did not need to apply for pardons. However, these pardons do not impact convictions for marijuana possession on the federal or municipal levels. (Westword)
