Diana Ross is an undeniable master of glitzy, over-the-top glamour, so it’s no wonder that her daughter, Tracee Ellis Ross, often takes fashion cues from the diva. They even coordinated colorful, marabou coats at Diana’s 75th birthday party. This week, Tracee paid tribute to her mother by recreating an iconic photo (and outfit) of hers—and the end result is worth a double-take.

It all started when Tracee found an archival promo image of her mother wearing a beaded statement necklace. The exact year it’s from is unknown, but judging by the aesthetic, I’d say the late ’70s or early ’80s. The star realized she still had her mother’s exact necklace in her closet, and decided to re-create the photo and upload it to Instagram. (Tracee even nailed the original photo’s pose, placing both her hands behind her head.)

Tracee also wore a similar pair of gold hoops for the photo op, but swapped out the sequined yellow top Diana wore for a sunny tank and trousers. Her mother even did Tracee’s hair and makeup for the shoot, to match the original look’s sleek, pulled-back bun and smokey eyeliner. Overall, the resemblance is uncanny—and it goes to show that a good outfit can still look killer, even decades later.
