Award-winning singer-songwriter Toni Braxton is the latest celebrity to share her beauty routine with Vogue for its famous "Beauty Secrets" YouTube series — and well, boy did she share some juicy secrets, y'all. In addition to revealing that she's a huge fan of drugstore skin-care products, like Aveeno's Clear Complexion Foaming Oil-Free Facial Cleanser, the "Long As I Live" vocalist also opened up about her favorite facial massage tool: a vibrator.
It's no joke, folks. The 52-year-old artist even took to Twitter to tell fans about her clever skin-care secret. The Tweet reads: "My real beauty secret? Yea ok it’s a vibrator! But I only use this on my face...honest! There's 3 settings...but I wouldn’t advise putting it on 3. 🥴"
Naturally, people immediately took to the comments, leaving messages like, "Well, this is interesting" and "Oh wow." Even Missy Elliot chimed in with a hilarious GIF that features people making confused faces.
As you'll see in the video, Braxton uses the vibrator — the Trojan Vibrations Power Wand Deep Massager, for anyone wondering — to simply massage her face, with a focus on under her eyes where many people tend to get puffy. After introducing the tool, she says, "It is a vibrator, but I call it a 'face tingler' because it tingles all the muscles in my face and gets them activated and working." Then, she addresses the elephant in the room: "I haven't used it on anything other than my face, OK? Just FYI."
Of course, we couldn't help but wonder if this is actually safe to do, so we tapped board-certified dermatologist, Joshua Zeichner, for his expert insight on the matter. Here's what he had to say:
"There is limited data showing that vibrating massage tools may help stimulate collagen and also enhance the effects of your products when both are used together," he tells Allure. "There's a variety of facial massage tools currently available on the market [but] using your vibrator on the face accomplishes a similar job. You just need to be careful not to use too high of a setting, not to apply to much pressure, and of course, to make sure it is properly sanitized if it had previously been used on another part of your body."
Well, there you have it. Using a vibrator as a facial massager isn't actually the most outlandish idea after all. Even still, if you want to give facial massages a try, might we recommend one of these jade rollers? There's even one for just $10.
