Toms River school bus accident on Route 37 under investigation, police say

TOMS RIVER - An accident involving a Toms River Regional School District bus and a roll-off truck Friday afternoon shut down traffic on both sides of Route 37.

No children were on board the bus at the time of the crash, Toms River Police Department spokeswoman Jillian Messina said.

The bus driver, whose name was not released, was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for minor injuries, Messina said.

The state Department of Transportation was on the scene redirecting traffic.

The accident pulled down a utility pole.

At 1:15 p.m. westbound traffic was backed up to the Garden State Parkway, about two miles away.

A trailer lay overturned in the highway near the bus.
