'Tom vs. Time,' an inside look at Tom Brady's life, coming soon to Facebook Watch

Tom Brady has allowed the world a glimpse into his life in recent years, whether through his Facebook or Instagram pages or his recent book, but it’s all been pretty carefully controlled. As one of the most famous men in America, married to one of the most famous women in the world, it’s understandable that Brady would try to keep many things to himself.

So it’s a bit of a surprise that the 40-year-old New England Patriots quarterback announced on Tuesday – via Instagram, natch – that he’s partnered with Facebook Watch for a docu-series on his life.

Called “Tom vs. Time,” it follows Brady as he balances the two loves of his life: football and family.

A trailer for the series, posted on Tuesday, opens with Brady saying, “What are you willing to do, and what are you willing to give up, to be the best you can be? You only have so much energy; the clock’s ticking on all of us. If you’re going to compete with me, you better be willing to give up your life, because I’m giving up mine.”

There are quick cuts of Brady, on the game field, on the practice field, in the gym, and with his family: his wife, Gisele Bundchen, and his three children, Jack, Ben and Vivian.

“I have thought for many years how cool it would be to show fans other aspects of my life and interact with them in a different way,” Brady said in a statement. “The docu-series is intimate, in-depth and more personal than anything I’ve released on my social channels, so I think it will be a great way of extending my reach to people on Facebook Watch.”

The debut date for the series has not been announced.

According to Variety, the series will be six episodes, and is from Religion of Sports, a media company founded by Brady, former New York Giants star Michael Strahan, and filmmaker Gotham Chopra, and the company Dirty Robber.

Brady, Strahan and Chopra (the son of spiritual guide Deepak Chopra) previously worked together on the 2015 documentary “The Religion of Sports,” which examined how deeply sports can influence society.

Facebook Watch is the social media site’s foray into original programming. Last year, it debuted “No Script,” which followed Marshawn Lynch into some of his adventures, and it’s also the home to “Ball in the Family,” about basketball’s infamous Ball clan.
