This Tinted Moisturizer Is the Most Skin-Perfecting Alternative to Foundation I've Ever Tried

WI never understood how some people think you can have two soul mates. Isn’t one real soulmate hard enough to find? Two? Seems like someone’s flown over the cuckoo’s nest, if you know what I’m saying.

Well. I’ve flown over the cuckoo’s nest. It’s me.

When my mother—who notoriously looks 15 years younger than she is—introduced me to Chantecaille’s Future Skin Foundation, I knew it was love. The bouncy, oil-free gel foundation makes your skin still look like your skin...but, like, if your skin belonged to a supermodel, you know?

It contains light-reflecting pigments that foster an outer glow usually only attainable after making out of a HomeGoods sale like a bandit; the smoothing formula masks the appearance of any imperfections, like fine lines, uneven tone or texture, and dehydration; it plumps with 60% charged water; and I've never once found it to look cakey or unnatural. Hence the supermodel version of your skin.

Now here’s where it gets tricky. I cheated on my soul mate. When the brand sent a more skin care-driven, light-coverage version of my favorite Future Skin Foundation, I was interested in seeing what it had to offer. Seeing as my one true love—be it so good to me—is pricey, using a tinted moisturizer on a daily basis could allow me to save the good stuff for when I want slightly more coverage (girls’ night, anyone?).

That’s when I finally got the whole “two soul mate” thing: Chantecaille’s Just Skin Tinted Moisturizer is just as good as the age-defying foundation.

As soon as you dab and swipe a pea-sized amount—one tube lasts me months—over your skin, it’s like an Instagram filter has been magically plastic-surgeoned to your face. Your skin looks like your skin, but instead of looking like the airbrushed supermodel version, it looks more like a “how does she get her skin so good?” version. Because you don’t look like you have anything on at all, except a natural glow and a whole lot of confidence.

This tinted moisturizer is dubbed a face perfector, combining light skin-smoothing coverage, sun protection, and natural complexion-boosting ingredients like honeysuckle, green tea, and edelweiss. It hydrates while tinting your skin for your most even-toned, glowy coverage. (We recommend mixing or layering with a liquid highlighter like this shimmering Becca stunner when wanting to radiate right off this planet.)

It makes the perfect everyday product if you want to look like yourself and prefer something that doesn’t feel like you have makeup on at all. The only caveat is that if you’re a full-coverage gal, through and through, you might want to stick with Future Skin. This isn’t made to look like you’re wearing makeup.

The shade range leaves something to be desired, but my go-to shade is Nude, a medium hue with rosy undertones that blends seamlessly into my skin once applied. Which usually happens in the car, on the way to work, since the sleek tube makes it so quick and easy (sorry, Mom!). Shop it here.

Luckily for me, my two soulmates can coexist quite well. No throuple counseling required.

Between needing extra hydration in the winter and wanting light coverage in the summer, this tinted moisturizer works hard year-round.
