How We Chose

To find the best joggers for women, we wore five pairs from a mix of major online retailers and indie brands for hours (it’s a hard job, but someone had to do it!). While I didn’t know the ratings beforehand, I bought a pair of these at REI ahead of a long-haul flight (I needed something to keep me warm and cozy on a 30-hour journey to Rwanda) several years ago. They are made from a special blend of recycled polyester and elastane the brand calls “DreamKnit”, giving you moisture-wicking features and a lighter fabric combination to allow for versatility. They also have pockets.

The moment I tried them on and experienced how soft and flattering these joggers were, I knew I had to buy them, even though the price tag was higher than I ever thought I’d spend on something adjacent to sweatpants. I had no regrets about making the investment at the time, and several years later, I still love these joggers.

There are a few small drawbacks to note, though. When I forgot to tie the drawcord before putting them in the dryer, the aglets (those metal clasps at the end of the drawstring) got caught in my dryer twice, causing some repairable damage—so be sure to tie them before washing or put the pants in a laundry bag.

Over time, I noticed that the inner thigh area of the joggers also was prone to lots of pilling. I don’t wear these joggers on the go anymore, but they’re still one of my favorite pants for lounging at home, and I’d buy another pair in a heartbeat. The Amazon Essentials Women’s Fleece Jogger Sweatpant costs less than $25 and there are nearly 30 colors and prints to choose from, so you’ll have no shortage of options. Maybe even stock up if you’re feeling a bit flush!

They are made of a cotton-polyester blend for durability and comfort and feature a drawstring waistband and tall elasticized cuffs (jogger staples). They are available in plus sizes, going up to a 6XL. Over 41,000 ratings deem these pants worthy of 4.3 stars. A win in our minds!

Senior editor Cat Bowen wears these pretty regularly as her "I guess I am cleaning the house, again" pants, and she says "they're perfect for the price, super comfy, and you don't care as much when you get bleach spots." She suggests sizing up, if like her, you have "powerful thighs."

Active Pursuits Midweight Joggers

These unisex joggers from REI couldn’t have come at a better time. I was getting ready for a long flight, and when I tried them on, I knew they’d be the perfect pants for the journey.

They were ridiculously soft without being too heavy, had deep pockets that zipped up to keep my passport and other essentials secure, and they featured a streetwear-style cut that ensured I didn’t look like I was wearing PJs in public. They also provided four-way stretch (perfect for bending down and angling my body into a cramped economy seat), as well as sweat-wicking and quick-drying properties.

I couldn’t ask for a better addition to my jetsetting uniform than these REI joggers. The unisex pants would definitely make a great gift for a traveler, regardless of their gender. We loved the classic black version, but if you like color, REI offers them in an earthy green and eye-catching magenta.

Women’s Ferrosi Joggers

Meet the most adventure-ready pants we’ve tested: Outdoor Research Women’s Ferrosi Joggers. These pants were designed for comfort and performance in rugged environments. They offer UPF 50+ sun protection and they dry almost instantly, so go ahead and wear them hiking on a hot summer day. Into rock climbing? You’ll love the joggers’ harness-compatible waist, forgiving stretch, and resistance to abrasion when you’re pressed against a rock wall.

Don’t be fooled into thinking these joggers are just for outdoor adventures, though. The moment we put them on, we felt that the smooth, lightweight material would be great for wearing on weekend outings. They’ve got style, too. The versatility makes them a great college graduation gift or even birthday treat!

The exterior drawcord gives the joggers a sporty look, while the tapered calf and ankle elastic look just right for picking up produce at the farmers’ market, grabbing a coffee with friends, or strolling around town. We also appreciated the drop-in mesh pockets, which added to the breathability of these joggers.

Waffle Weekend Escape Jogger

The Waffle Weekend Escape Jogger from Alo Yoga impressed us right from the get-go. We adored the heavy, high-quality fabric and the waffle knitting, which made us want to pop on these pants ASAP.

Wearing them was also a pleasure. The high, stretchy waistline felt both flattering and forgiving, easily allowing us to move around and bend over without feeling too snug. We also appreciated the joggers’ two side pockets (perfect for storing a few essentials and keeping your hands free) and the chill draping.

They have an easy-breezy look that still feels upscale—like something a member of the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills might wear for brunch on a fabulous getaway. We think they’d be a great gift for a yogi who loves high-end boutique studios (and the athleisure-wear fashion statements that go along with them!).

Only downside? The ivory version is ever-so-slightly see-through, so these joggers might be better for lounging around at home than wearing out and about. Not a dealbreaker, but you might want to find neutral undergarments to wear underneath—or just opt for the black version instead.

Ace Jogger

Looking for a gift for a golfer that they can wear on and off the golf course? Pirdie has you covered with these fantastic women’s joggers. In our testing, we found that the heavier-than-average fabric made these joggers feel more high-end than some of the competition. We loved the fit, too—not too tight, but definitely not baggy, these pants felt sophisticated (for joggers, anyway!).

Pirdie nailed the details of these women’s joggers. Born Primitive Women’s Rest Day Athleisure Jogger is the perfect hybrid between leggings for lounging and technical pants for exercise. We found they fit exactly like a jogger should—snug at the waist (and adjustable with the drawstring), slightly loose around the legs, and cinched at the ankles. They hugged the body a touch more closely than some of the other joggers, though, so they’d be a great alternative to skin-tight leggings if you don’t want something too baggy.

One touch of the slightly silky, buttery-soft fabric and we knew these would dry quickly. We could see ourselves running errands in these joggers on a hot summer day or even wearing them to a strength-training session at the gym. We’re fans of the fact that these joggers have not one, but two sets of pockets, and the back ones even zip up!

One of the best parts is the wide selection of colors and prints. If you’re looking for joggers in plaid, pine green, ocean blue, maroon, or classic black, Born Primitive’s got you covered. Just be sure to air dry them on laundry day.

Muse Sweatpant

If you're ready to lounge in comfort and also flex an iconic, streetwear-worthy pair of joggers, then look no further than the Alo Muse Sweatpant. Featuring a high waist and ankle cuffs (hence its inclusion into our jogger category, despite its name), these pants are made with soft ribbed knit and come with a variety of trendy colors and even coordinating tops, should you decide to get all matchy.

If you're ready to find your next go-to pair of joggers for winter (or long flight on a chilly airplane), then look no further.
