TikTok Star Olivia Ponton Reveals She is Bisexual
TikTok star Olivia Ponton is extremely excited to celebrate her first Pride as a part of the LGBTQ+ community. The 18-year-old announced in a recent interview that she identifies as bisexual.
On Wednesday, Olivia revealed to Teen Vogue that, growing up in Naples, Florida, it never "really even occurred" to her that "being bisexual was even a possibility."
Then, she met her girlfriend, UCLA soccer player, Kaila Novak. "I met my girlfriend on TikTok and became thoroughly obsessed with her," Olivia said, explaining that she reached out to Kaila through Instagram DMs and they eventually started hanging out in January 2021.
Since then, Olivia and Kaila have been fairly public about their relationship, posting flirting videos together on TikTok, though Olivia hasn't addressed her sexuality publicly until now.
Olivia revealed that seeing JoJo Siwa come out earlier this year was really inspiring for her. "I saw that and thought 'Wow, that’s really amazing for young children now because she's such a big role model,'" she said. "And she’s really become almost a role model for me to look up to as well."
In fact, Olivia hopes she can be a similar inspiration to others now that she's out, especially to those who maybe don't know quite how to define themselves yet. "I want to let young girls know that it’s okay to not even know your sexuality until you’re older."
On Wednesday, Olivia posted on her Instagram story wishing her followers a happy Pride month. "So honored [and] happy for this to be my first pride month out," she wrote. "Yesterday was such an emotional day for me :) so beyond blessed to have such a strong community to stand with."
Kaila, meanwhile, shared her support for her GF, reposting an announcement on Olivia's coming out and writing, "My everything and more. Watching you grow throughout this entire journey has been a blessing. Welcome to the club."
