TikTok Is Reportedly Removing Videos of People with "Abnormal Body Shapes"

TikTok Is Reportedly Removing Videos of People with "Abnormal Body Shapes" This week, internal documents from TikTok were obtained by “The Intercept.” They reveal that the app's creators reportedly put policies in place to suppress videos of physical traits that they deemed unfit for TikTok: "Abnormal body shapes," "ugly facial looks," "dwarfism," "obvious beer belly," "too many wrinkles," and "eye disorders." TikTok also reportedly enforced the removal of videos showing people of seemingly low-socioeconomic status and those with certain political beliefs. Josh Gartner, a spokesperson for TikTok, told The Intercept that these censorship rules "represented an early blunt attempt at preventing bullying." Gartner also said that the policies "are either no longer in use, or in some cases appear to never have been in place." But some TikTok influencers say they are still experiencing removal of their videos, seemingly because of their body shape. In February, Chelsea Culbertson posted a TikTok video reminding viewers that every body is a "bikini body," but it was removed for being "offensive." Better Body Love program creator, Ashley Reeves, experienced similar discrimination after posting a video in February of her dancing with several women wearing swimsuits. Ashley Reeves
