Three Simple Things That Will Boost Your Brain Power

Filmmaker Max Lugavere is known for his popular vlogs on health science topics ranging from intermittent fasting to the microbiome. He’s currently filming Bread Head, a documentary about preventing dementia through diet and other lifestyle factors.

Could simply adding three things—two foods, and one activity—to your daily health regimen seriously boost your brain health? Integrative neurologist David Perlmutter, MD, best-selling author of Grain Brain and Brain Maker, thinks so.

Among his easiest suggestions is getting a dose of vitamin D, which is thought to be deficient or insufficient in over a billion people worldwide. That’s a big problem considering that vitamin D regulates the expression of a massive range of genes in the body, many of which are either directly or indirectly related to the health of the 86 billion neurons that make us us—our brains.
