Thousands of New Yorkers Protest in Support of Black Trans Lives

Thousands of New Yorkers gathered to protest in support of Black trans lives following the killings of two Black trans women, Riah Milton and Dominique ‘Rem’mie’ Fells.

The protest was led by Black trans women and was co-organized by a number of groups, including the Marsha P. Johnson Institute and the Okra Project. The rally came on the heels of a week where two Black trans women had died. Dominique ‘Rem’Mie’ Fells, 27, was found dead in a river in SW Philly on June 8. A day later, Riah Milton, 25, was shot in Ohio. Authorities are investigating both deaths as homicides.
