They say you want what you can’t have, and for me, that’s smooth and straight hair.

While I’ve inherited typical female Asian traits (small frame, height and facial features), I was genetically cursed (some say blessed) with curly hair. As pretty as it sounds, the condition of my natural locks is from it. I’m talking fine, controllable frizz and uneven coils and waves finished with lifeless and limp ends caused by years of frequent hair straightening.

As someone who can’t live without their flat iron, I’m constantly looking for ways to save my split ends and rehabilitate the health of my hair. Along with spacing out my shampoo days, frequent hair trims and weekly masking with the Nexxus Keraphix Masque, I’ve been looking into switching out my moisture-absorbing cotton pillowcases for something satin.

In case you haven’t already noticed, satin and silk pillowcases have slowly made their way from the home department to the beauty aisle.

The most coveted brand is Slip Beauty, a label specializing in 100 per cent mulberry silk hair scrunchies, eye masks and pillowcases for those with sensitive skin and thinning hair. While I fully understand how the benefits of sleeping on soft and gentler pillowcase could drastically reduce the amount of hair breakage while I toss and turn in my sleep, I still can’t fathom spending $119 on just one pillowcase.

So, like all things, I’m turning to Amazon for a more affordable alternative. Enter the Bedsure Satin Pillowcase, Amazon’s choice and no.1 selling product in Home.

These satin pillowcases, with a 4.4-star rating and backed by 2,000 reviews, are said to work just as well the pricier cases by Slip Beauty.

“This purchase is one of the best decisions I’ve made for my skin and hair. It has held up in the washer and dryer and maintained the integrity of the satin. Good buy and worth the money,” said one five-star reviewer.

“I've got naturally curly hair, and usually I wake up with quite the nest. With my new pillowcases, my hair isn't as messed up and I'm not waking up with pillow creases on my face! They're always cool too so no more pillow flipping,” said another.

“Really helps with static and keeping your hair soft,” a third happy customer added. “[The] only downside is that my head would sometimes slide off the pillow lol.”

Made from 100 per cent polyester, these silk-like pillowcases help create less friction on your hair, helping you retain shine. They are perfect for those who prefer to wash and style their hair at night, like me.

Sleeping on silk-like covers can not only protect your hair from frizz and tangles but protects your skin against acne and sleep lines that can cause deep wrinkles.

Each set includes two covers, and prices range between $13 and $14 (depending on size).
