Journaling allows you to jot down your thoughts and ideas, and can be a very powerful tool for self-care. Psychotherapist Tasha Bailey, MA, MBACP shared this recent Instagram post with the caption, "I love journaling. It clears my thoughts when things feel messy," and can help release and make sense of emotions and inspire positive change.

If you're new to journaling, here are some prompts to get you started, that can help you reflect, process, and adjust to the new year. What goals are you hoping to accomplish in 2021? What people and activities lift you up? What expectations or rules no longer serve you and need to be let go? What lessons have you learned from last year that can guide you in the coming year?

Choose the prompts that speak to you, or try the ones that seem challenging to explore your thoughts and feelings. When emotions are high, journaling is always there for you as a way to let them out into the world, so it can be an effective, free, and consistent way to support our mental health.
