The Summer Skincare Switch Up

It’s hot, the sun is shining, I’m sweating, and my makeup is semi-melting: it’s time to switch things over to my summer skincare routine. Higher temperatures give skin a different texture, and higher moisture content from sweat or humidity can cause certain products to act differently. But across the board, SPF is a must-have (of course), and I’m mist-obsessed, so for me that’s also a must-have. Here, a list of all the summer skincare products I can’t live without.

1.Supergoop Defense Refresh Setting Mist, SPF 50, $8-$28

I am absolutey obsessed with mists and misting of all kinds. And while most of the time I use January Labs Restorative Spray or Rose Water, this Supergoop spray is genius for summer. Keep it in your bag all day long and mist away to refresh your sun protection (it’s SPF 50!) and stay hydrated. Keep it in your purse, keep it on your desk, take it on vacation, or spray it on after the gym. Just use it!

2.Restorsea PRO Foaming Cleanser, Ask Your Dermatologist

Right now, I love Restorsea’s Foaming Cleanser. I always use a cream or oil cleanser in colder and dryer months, but sometimes that’s hard in the summer months when my skin is glistening like all the time (and not in a good way). This foaming cleanser is awesome as it gets hotter because it’s super light, but somehow erases every bit of dirt. I honesty do think that $25mm Salmon Egg Enzyme is making my skin brighter.

3.Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Defense Sunscreen, SPF 30, $38

If you’re still looking for the perfect summer sunscreen to wear everyday (yes—every single day), this one is tops. There is a reason this sunscreen is on the top of everyone’s list. It’s amazing! It contains 20% zinc oxide, which means if you suffer from pigmentation problems (which are usually worse in the summer), it’s perfect for you. And if you’re trying to figure out the sunscreen terms (organic, natural, physical, mineral? In terms of sunscreen, what does that all mean?) read our article decoding sunscreen lingo.

4.BareMinerals Blemish Remedy Foundation, $28

Summer makeup is hard for several reasons: melting, melting, and melting. In the heat, I’m more prone to breakouts, so I usually go super light on makeup—but when I do want a little daytime coverage, I love this light BareMinerals powder foundation. Mineral makeup also gives you a little added sun protection, which is great, and it’s also an excellent oil-absorber and one of the least irritating foundations you can use.

5.Revision Intellishade Tinted Moisturizer, SPF 45, $45

Sometimes I just want to reach for a quick tinted moisturize and slap it on. Revision Intellishade is my go-to. Because guess what? Most makeup and tinted moisturizers with SPF aren’t enough, but this one is! It has coverage, SPF 45, and it’s loaded with vitamin C and peptides. Hoorah!

6.Suntegrity Lip, SPF 30, $28

This is a magical lip product. It’s filled with jojoba oil, shea butter, plus zinc and SPF—whether you’re looking for the vibrant color of a lipstick or the hydration and sun protection of a lip balm, this is a great way to go.
