The Man Repeller on Fashion Peeps: “We’re All Weirdos”

Although we all try and play along, the fashion industry can (admittedly) be a rather unfriendly place sometimes. (Even Anna Wintour alluded to this in her video for Victoria Beckham at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards.) But leave it to one of the industry’s top bloggers to break down the mentality behind the supposed rivalry. In the latest episode of Tea at the Beatrice — which is shown on the new fashion-tainment programming channel Made to Measure on Apple TV — Leandra Medine (aka the Man Repeller) chats with host Glenn O’Brien about how fashion people love to hate each other (O’Brien’s words not ours).

“We’re like the creative kids from high school who never quite got it,” she says in between sips. “We never tuned into the frequency of what was cool back then. As we entered this industry and started to become mainstays, it seems like the only mode of operation that we know is to exclude. Because that’s what the cool kids did in high school. And so we’re all these weirdos excluding each other when all we want is to have dinner together.”
