Give thanks, hope and volunteer

The average person meets 10,000 people during their life – think of the impact one person has. Thousands of today’s leaders – men and women – were inspired as Pat Norriss became the first woman to hold office in so many leadership roles throughout Wichita County. As I learned of her death this week, I fondly recalled Pat’s ever-present smile and cheery encouragements. Now it falls to the rest of us to share encouragements in her honor.

As we prepare to greet and celebrate with friends and family this week in advance of our Thanksgiving celebration, think of all the smiles you can create from today through the end of the year. There are so many reasons to view the future with hope and love for one another.

Sober Living provides segregated housing for women and men in recovery; many released from prison or jail without identification or clothes. For those seeking a second chance, Sober Living offers refuge, tools for living and peer accountability. On Monday, Southwest Rotary heard from Sandra Brown Scheller and Brandi. Sandra’s “heart for those in recovery,” drove her to serve as board chair. Sober Living has 503c status and owns separate housing facilities for women and men. Brandi serves as assistant director modeling the ways of recovery to others new to the program during residency within a “sisters keepers’ home.” Brandi’s duties are 24x7 keeping sober people in recovery while leading their community re-engagement. Sober Living can be reached at (940) 636-4357 or https://www.facebook.com/soberlivinginc940

While I was serving lunch at Faith Mission this week, a gentleman donated two freshly smoked turkeys. The rich smell filled the kitchen. Food for the body while both Faith Mission and Sober Living help lost souls recover and re-enter our communities.  Donate at: https://pushpay.com/g/faithmissionwf
