Texas suspends CB Holton Hill for rest of 2017 season
One of Texas’ best defensive players will miss the rest of the 2017 season.
The school said Tuesday that Holton Hill had been suspended for the final three games of the year because of a violation of team rules. Per the team release, “Hill will be permitted to continue working out with the Longhorns and remain a member of the team, but will not be permitted to participate in any games.”
Hill is Texas’ second leading tackler behind LB/DE Malik Jefferson. Hill has 51 tackles through the first nine games of the season and two interceptions. He has recorded at least four tackles in each of Texas’ last four games.
Hill’s two interceptions came in the first two weeks of the season. He returned each of his interceptions vs. Maryland and San Jose State for touchdowns. Per Texas, he became just the third player in school history to return interceptions for touchdowns in back-to-back games. Hill also returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown in that loss to Maryland.
Texas, 4-5, ends the season with games against Kansas, West Virginia and Texas Tech. The Longhorns need to win two of those three games to make a bowl in coach Tom Herman’s first season.
