Tess Holliday wants the world to know that fat people have sex too.

The body-positive activist took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a snap of her posing in some seriously sexy, sheer underwear in a shot taken by photographer Anastasia Garcia.

And in the accompanying caption, the size 22-year-old model took the opportunity to tear down some stigmas surrounding body size and desirability.

Explaining that the photo reminded her of an important piece of life advice included in her new book ‘The Not So Subtle Art Of Being A Fat Girl‘, Tess wrote:

“Shot some #polaroids with @anastasiagphoto in NYC last week. When I saw them, & how hot (& obviously unretouched) they are, I was reminded of a ‘Tess Holliday’s Advice for Life’ that are all throughout my book. It goes: “Fat people have sex. A lot of it. And it’s really f**king good.”

Tess’ photographer Anastasia Garcia, a plus-size woman herself, quickly regrammed the shot, explaining to her followers that the model’s words play an important role in helping other women feel more body confident and sexy.

“I appreciate Tess’s quote more than I have words for,” she wrote.

“Growing up I always felt like I wasn’t allowed to be sexy, or sexual. Despite the fact that I completely was, and completely loved that aspect of my life. I thought because I was fat I had to hide that aspect of myself. I realise now what a crock of shit that was. I’m pretty lucky to be around women who remind me that so many of us have a shared narrative. I’m also lucky to be surrounded by all this sexy.”

It might sound like something obvious to point out that plus-size people have sex, but Tess’ initial statement and Anastasia’s follow-up comment is proof that the world could do with a subtle reminder that people are desirable no matter their body shape.

And that size and sexy are not mutually exclusive.
