Terry Crews says he would do the Old Spice commercials again 'for free'
Terry Crews has quite a few roles under his belt, but apparently none are as memorable as being the spokesman for Old Spice. Crews said he would be more than happy to reprise that role.
Old Spice recently brought back their critically-acclaimed campaign on Jan. 23, in time for its 10-year anniversary. The 30-second commercial presented the return of the OG Old Spice guy, Isaiah Mustafa, and also featured Keith Powers of Straight Outta Compton, who played Mustafa’s son.
Crews — who joined the campaign after Mustafa — was a spokesman for Old Spice for 10 years, and the actor shared that he would be happy to return to the role under one condition.
“I would love to do Old Spice if they asked me to — that’s the requirement,” he said during an appearance on the BUILD series stage in New York City. “I would do the Old Spice commercial for free. I'll tell you that right now because it changed the game...People were watching those commercials as entertainment.”
The Everybody Hates Chris star also said he believed that, with commercials like Old Spice bringing something new to entertainment in general, television has been thriving more than movies.
“Right now, the Emmys is hot! The Emmys is as hot as the Oscars, and you realize people are getting their entertainment an hour at a time,” Crews explained.
Television has definitely been good to Crews with several nominations, including ones from the NAACP Image Awards and Screen Actors Guild. The actor also shared that he loves what he does, especially after coming from his humble beginnings in Flint, Mich.
“You gotta understand...where I'm from, dude, you just don't wanna be dead,” he explained. “You just wanna survive. Like, man, if I’m eating and now I'm more than eating — I am thriving and I'm just so... I'm the most grateful man in Hollywood. And I say this and I will continue to say this... that the height of your success is equal to the depth of your gratitude — as deep as your gratitude goes, that determines your real success ‘cause I've never seen a person who's not thankful who's really successful.”
