The newest trailer for Terminator: Dark Fate was released online today, diving deeper into the actual plot of the film. But rather than clarifying what the movie is about, the trailer will likely leave you with far more questions than answers.

The new preview reveals that Judgment Day was successfully avoided but the machines still rose up, Grace (Mackenzie Davis) is a human but also a robot, and despite being killed at the end of T2, Arnold’s Terminator appears to be very much alive and aging in a remote cabin in the woods.
But there’s one main unanswered question that outweighs the rest: who is Dani (Natalia Reyes) and why is she so important? She seems to be the new “key” to saving humanity, with Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) saying she is just like her and Grace doing everything in her power to Dani from harm. Does this mean that Dani is now carrying the baby who will eventually become the leader of the human resistance? Is John Connor no longer the only hope in the Terminator universe?
Once again, it’s all pretty murky but if we’re being honest, that’s the way we tend to like our Terminator movies. Even at its best, the Terminator franchise has always put spectacle ahead of the logic of the plot. Yes, the time travel used in the movies never really made sense and even Judgment Day itself brings up a lot of questions if you think about it for too long.
But who cares? As long as the action kicks ass and the quotes are memorable, you won’t hear us complaining. So rather than complain preemptively, how about we all just sit back, relax, and hope this is less of a shit show than every other Terminator movie made over the last 25 years.
