Going camping this summer? I don't mean fancified glamping, with Wi-Fi and furniture—though there's certainly nothing wrong with a luxe little cabin in the woods!—but real, old-school, low-tech camping: you, a tent, and nature. If so, you will not want to miss out on Tentsile's Universe 5-Person Tree Tent, hands-down the most amazing, multipurpose tent I've ever seen.

Tentsile calls the Universe "the world's first three-element tent," and they're not kidding: It can be pitched on the ground, like a traditional tent; in the trees, hanging in midair like a hammock; or floating on the water, like a raft. It's the Swiss army knife of tents!

When pitched on the ground, the 102-square-foot Universe can sleep up to five people, and it sleeps three when suspended in the trees. (The "water mode" is intended for recreation only and not for sleeping, which makes me a little sad, because I love the idea of an entire lake being my waterbed! But, you know, safety first.) The tent includes poles and everything else needed to put it together, packs up into a neat trolley bag for easy transporting, and—crucially—comes equipped with "grade 4 165g/m² tear-resistant safari insect mesh," which sounds serious enough to keep the bugs at bay and then some.

While the Universe tent is not exactly cheap at $1,999, you and your family will get a ton of use out of it—when your camping trip is over, you can use it as a treehouse in the backyard or a truly killer pool float for the rest of the summer. And you'll also be helping the environment: Tentsile is an eco-conscious company that plants 20 trees for every tent sold, through a variety of charities. Win-win!
