Will 'Tenet' Get A Sequel? Here's John David Washington's Take.

After several rounds of lockdown delays, Christopher Nolan's mind-boggling eleventh movie Tenet finally debuted in (a limited number of) US theaters earlier this year. If you saw it earlier this year, or waited until it appeared on streaming services in December, you've probably been left with a whole lot of questions about chill subjects like nuclear physics, entropy and time inversion. But here's another burning question you may be asking after the credits rolled: Are we getting a Tenet 2?
One of Tenet's final scenes sees Neil (Robert Pattinson) bidding farewell to The Protagonist (John David Washington), and waving him off with a huge revelation that completely changes his understanding of reality. Because that's how Christopher Nolan characters roll. As far as The Protagonist knows, he and Neil met for the first time just days ago. But in fact, Neil reveals, they've known each other for years – or rather, they will have known each other for years.
Because of the way time can flow backwards in the Tenet-verse, The Protagonist hasn't yet experienced most of their years-long relationship. Neil reveals that in the future, The Protagonist is the one who recruits and trains him, after which they enjoy all kinds of bromantic adventures together. All of which sounds like.... a pretty great premise for a follow-up movie. So is that scene setting up Tenet 2? When I asked John David Washington to weigh in this week, he was emphatic.
"In my mind, that’s a yes!" he said. "We will be doing this again, we’ll see you in a couple of years." But don't get too excited, Tenetheads—Washington was quick to acknowledge that this could just be wishful thinking on his part. "In reality, I don’t know," he continued. "Chris does what he wants. Maybe he has something that he’s developed for years that he wants to do next, maybe he’s been inspired by something else he sees and wants to do that, I don’t know. I hope we get to do it again, I hope we get to explore more, because I think we found something really unique."
Or maybe they’ve already filmed the Tenet sequel and that movie actually was released already and we’ll see it sometime in the future.
