Apple TV+'s smash hit Ted Lasso is back for more action this summer.

When first premiering on the streaming platform in August of 2020, viewers didn't know what to expect from the feel-good comedy, which stars Jason Sudeikis as a cheery American football coach who gets hired to lead an English Premier soccer team called AFC Richmond. But very quickly, the 10-episode first season became immensely popular. The 2020 awards season saw Ted Lasso stack up several SAG, Golden Globe and Writers Guild of America nominations and wins. Now, the series has been renewed for both a second and third season.

Ahead of new episodes of Ted Lasso hitting the Apple TV+ platform, read up on all the key details about season 2:

As for characters Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), it's unclear what their involvement will look like in season 2. As Roy was ready to retire at the end of season 1 and Jamie wound up on Manchester City, their futures remain uncertain. That said, we're sure the show will find a way to keep them involved somehow.

Meanwhile, fans can expect to see Sarah Niles join season 2 as a series regular. According to Entertainment Weekly, the actress will portray Sharon, AFC Richmond's sports psychologist "who is coming in to sort a few things out."

"People have their ideas about psychology, particularly when you're talking about athletics, and more so in this country there's a bit of a skepticism," Sarah explained to the outlet. "They think the game is about physicality and the body, and it's not about the mind. So I'm sure she's going to come up against some kind of resistance. She's straight-talking, very good at her job, very kind, and wants the best for everyone."

The good news is, season 2 will not be the final installment of Ted Lasso. The bad news? The ending will likely come after season 3. According to what cocreator Bill Lawrence said on the podcast Fake Doctors, Real Friends, Ted Lasso, as it stands now, is a "three-season show."

"After the third season, I will desperately try to get Mr. Sudeikis to do a ... The only way I think a fourth season of Ted Lasso exists would be if Ted Lasso went and coached a soccer team that played about a block from Jason’s house in real life, you know what I mean?" Bill explained. "[Jason]’s got young kids."

Sorry to break this news to you. But we still have all of seasons 2 and 3 to look forward to on the bright side!

Are there any Ted Lasso season 2 spoilers?

If we had to guess, season 2 will be all about redemption. As fans can remember, the end of season 1 saw AFC Richmond being relegated from the Premier League into the Championship.

Despite the sort-of sad ending to season 1, this will likely set up the team's road to success in season 2 as they start to compete in the Championship and try to return to the Premier League. As Ted explained in the last few minutes of season 1, the overall goal of the team is to win everything — and with Ted's can-do attitude front and center, we have a feeling AFC Richmond will do just that.
