Forget about leaving an apple on the desk. A better way to show appreciation for teachers is to help send them on a luxurious summer getaway.
For the second straight year BedandBreakfast.com is offering its “Travel for Teachers” program, which gives teachers big discounts at inns and bed and breakfasts nationwide. Consider it a big “thank you” for all the graded papers, parent-teacher conferences, and rowdy students that teachers endure during the school year.
More than 170 B&Bs and inns are participating in “Travel for Teachers” this year – almost double the number from last year. And it doesn’t take a math teacher to see that there are some incredible deals to be had:
Auberge de Seattle French Country Inn, Woodinville, Wash.
Teachers are eligible for 30% off a two-night stay at this inn (which is also a certified French specialty cooking school), a half-hour outside Seattle. That slashes the $1,150 two-day rate for the Honeymoon Suite to just $805 for teachers; the Chef Quarter Cottage, normally $1,098, is just $768; and the Studio Suite is discounted from $878 to $614. Other perks include a two-for-one cooking class, two-for-one garden lunch and garden tour, one bottle of Vin Mousseaux, and room service petit dejeuner breakfast. A perfect place to stay as you explore Woodinville’s beautiful wine country.
This pet-friendly cottage near Mystic is offering a teacher’s special package deal that offers a three-night stay (Sunday-Thursday) for $149/night ($255 is the average standard rate). Also included: about $150 worth of bundled extras, including two free adult tickets to local attractions and 20% off any treatment at the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa. This is a good spot for a gambling weekend; the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos are nearby.
POSH Palm Springs, Palm Springs, Calif.
This nine-room boutique inn is offering teachers a 25% discount, good Sundays through Thursdays (through September 15). That slashes the price of a deluxe room from $149 per night to $112, a mini-suite from $169 per night to $127, and a suite from $189 to $142. POSH provides complimentary hot breakfasts and easy access to downtown Palm Springs. And there’s one feature sure to appeal to vacationing teachers: POSH is adults only!
Bentwood Inn, Jackson Hole, Wyo.
Teachers get to enjoy this 6,000-square-foot, five-guestroom log lodge for 25% off a four-night stay. That amounts to $1,125 for two people with a Bistro Dinner included (normal price: $1,500). Every stay includes a full breakfast each morning and evening appetizer hour each night, plus chocolate chip cookies 24/7. The Bentwood Inn is just down the road from Grand Teton National Park and a short drive from the Jackson Hole ski resort.
Creekwalk Inn, Crosby, Tenn.
For nature-loving teachers, Creekwalk is offering 30% off its nightly rate at its log cabin B&B near the popular hiking spot of Mount Cammerer and whitewater rafting in Hartford. Package includes farm-to-table breakfast, Smoky Mountain hiking map, and picnic lunch for two.
The Union Hotel, Everett, Penn.
Teachers get a whopping 50 percent off any Suite, King Room or Queen Room. The Union Hotel also has an on-site tavern – a perfect spot for teachers to hoist a cold one to celebrate the end of another school year.
