Teacher surprises students right before state exam with encouraging letters from ‘adults who love them’

State exams can be nerve-wracking at any age, but one elementary school teacher recently stumbled upon a heartwarming way to ensure that her class wouldn’t let their nerves get the best of them.

In a now-viral TikTok, 26-year-old Chrishae Powell (@thatssochrishae) films her class opening individual envelopes while eating lunch.

“Imagine right before you take a state exam … You open an unexpected letter from an adult who loves you so much,” Powell wrote in the video text.

Then, over the next 38 seconds, she scans the classroom with her camera, capturing the growing smiles on each student’s face when they read their note. It’s clear by their reactions that the letters give them an extra boost of confidence.

At the same time, the hit song “Love Me Like You Do” by Ellie Goulding plays gently in the background.

In just a few days, the video has earned more than 2.1 million views and thousands of comments.

Many came from fellow teachers interested in trying something like this.

“Can you please share what you sent home to families?” one educator asked. “What the prompt or email was? How far in advance you did this? How you got the letters to you?”

“First year teacher here!” added another. “My kids test in the morning, and my partner and I did this with our kids today. We had many of our babies in tears from the encouraging words their loved ones wrote. My partner and I also had tears in our eyes. Definitely changed my kid’s feelings for tomorrow.”

In fact, a lot of people admitted to getting choked up over the video (plus the whole concept in general).

“Never knew state testing would make me tear up …. like this,” one person admitted.

“Not me crying and saying I can’t take the test now,” said another. “I’m too emotional lol.”

“The boy at the end is my favorite hahah ‘I got this now, watch me,'” someone else noted.

Powell is no stranger to sharing heartwarming and funny clips of her students on TikTok. Believe it or not, her classroom videos earned more than 108,000 followers.

Some are just lighthearted TikToks she films throughout the day.

Others give followers the chance to donate to her classroom fund, which allows her to buy fun snacks, supplies and other activities for her students.

It’s safe to say that her students love her. And now, so does all of TikTok.

“Definitely the best teacher I’ve ever seen,” someone wrote in the comments of one video.

“if you’ve ever wondered if you are doing a great job as an educator… YOU ARE!” added someone else.
