Taylor Swift Will Release Album Title Track “Lover” Soon, After It Sparked Engagement Rumors

When Taylor Swift’s Vogue cover profile dropped last week, fans couldn’t help but notice that the lyrics of her new song “Lover,” off the album of the same name, sounded a bit like the classic bridal rhyme “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.” The song itself features the lyrics “My heart’s been borrowed/ And yours has been blue/ All’s well that ends well/ To end up with you.” Could this be a hint that Taylor and her boyfriend of three years, actor Joe Alwyn, are engaged?

It appears we might soon find out, because “Lover” is coming soon! In her speech at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards, Taylor revealed that “Lover” will hit your eardrums on Friday, August 16. “There’s so much I’m excited about coming up in the next 12 days until my album Lover comes out,” Taylor said. “The album comes out on August 23rd, but I wanted to tell you guys tonight that on the 16th, I have a new song called ‘Lover’ that’s coming out and I’m excited.” New Music Friday just got a lot more exciting, and we’re ready to do some detective work figuring out exactly what Taylor is trying to tell us. If wedding bells are in the air for Taylor and Joe, we’re all about it.

Taylor also used the Teen Choice Awards to send a message to her younger self. According to JustJared Jr., Taylor accepted the Icon Award at the ceremony and gave an inspiring speech about the lessons she’s learned during her many years in the music industry. “I think one thing I wish I would have known when I was a teen is mistakes are inevitable,” she said. “Sometimes you think if you try hard enough to make every decision perfectly, you think you can ace life and never make mistakes. But it’s normal to make mistakes.”

Taylor has experienced her fair share of ups and downs in her career, but her message for her fans is to persevere through the hard times. “If you’re out there and you’re being really hard on yourself right now for something that’s happened, or messing up or feeling embarrassed, it’s normal,” she continued. “That’s what’s going to happen in life. No one gets through unscathed. We’re all going to have a few scratches on us. Please be kind to yourselves and stand up for yourself.”

Hopefully we’ll get more life lessons from Taylor via her lyrics when Lover drops on August 23.
