Babe, wake up, Taylor Swift dropped a new song last night and the time has come to analyze all the lyrics. The song in question is actually a collab with The National called “The Alcott,” which Tay sings as a duet with Matt Berninger.
Matt said in a press release that the song is a “contained moment and narrative between two people” meeting at a place where they “used to hang out.” He also made it clear that Tay “wrote all her stuff as a response to me and very much from the perspective of my wife, who I was writing about.”
In other words, the lyrics are *not* about Taylor’s ex Joe Alwyn—even though there’s definitely a lot to read into! Specifically the chorus, ahem:
