Taylor Swift Apparently Removed the "Spelling Is Fun" Lyric From Her Single "ME!"

Ahead of the release of Taylor Swift's new album Lover, it appears that Taylor has made a change to a previous single. On Aug. 21, PopCrave reported that her first song from this era, "ME!" featuring Brendon Urie of Panic! At the Disco, has been altered on Apple Music.

"ME!", which came out back in April, was released to mixed feelings from fans and critics alike. One part of the song in particular felt especially cringe-y for listeners — the intro into the bridge, where Brendon and Taylor shout, "Hey kids! Spelling is fun!" The Atlantic said about the track, "The most memorable lyric [in the song] comes when she shouts 'Spelling is fun!' and then declines to spell out anything."

But as PopCrave noted, that line is no longer on the Apple Music version of the song (as of this writing, it's still available in the original version on Spotify and in the YouTube music video).

As Billboard reported, Taylor has previously talked about why she chose to include the lyric in the first place. "So the lyrics, that’s a tone decision that we made in the studio. We literally were like, okay, let’s say ‘Hey, kids! Spelling is fun’ because we want everyone to know that this song is not really serious because it’s not, like, a serious love song," she told The Hit Network in April.

Many Taylor fans are less than thrilled with the decision to take out the line. One wrote, "Are y’all happy? Y’all made her feel so badly that she was pushed to this point." But when one questioned, "omg why," an alleged Swiftie responded simply, "We not in elementary school." Another added, "She got tired of y’all dragging her sksksk."

Farewell, "spelling is fun," we hardly knew ye.
