Taylor Lautner Is 'Praying for John' Mayer Ahead of 'Speak Now: Taylor's Version'

Taylor Lautner—and his wife, Taylor Lautner—is looking forward to his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift's next re-recording!

Swift recently announced that her third studio album, Speak Now, would be the next in her early discography to get the "Taylor's Version" treatment.

Seeing as Lautner is well-known to have dated the superstar the year before the album was originally released—and, therefore, assumed to be the subject of at least a few of the songs on it—Today made sure to check in with him in a new interview.

When asked about his feelings surrounding the impending release, Lautner, 31, laughed, admitting that he thinks he's "safe."

"I think it's a great album," he told the interviewer. "Yeah, I feel safe."

He went on to joke, "Praying for John," referring to John Mayer, who is widely known—though Swift has never outright confirmed it—to be the subject of the vulnerable and extrospective break-up track "Dear John."

The lyrics elaborately detail the aftermath of a manipulative relationship, with lines like "...you paint me a blue sky and go back and turn it to rain / And I lived in your chess game but you changed the rules every day / Wondering which version of you I might get on the phone tonight..." and, "You are an expert at sorry and keeping the lines blurry, never impressed by me acing your tests / All the girls that you've run dry have tired, lifeless eyes, 'cause you burned them out..." which have led many of the "Anti-Hero" songstress' fans on a digital crusade against the "Gravity" singer—something that's anticipated to ramp up with the release of Speak Now: Taylor's Version, much like the backlash against Jake Gyllenhaal—who is widely assumed to be the subject of "All Too Well"—swelled following the release of Red: Taylor's Version.

Meanwhile, one of the songs linked to Lautner is "Back to December," an introspective apology track with lyrics like, "So this is me swallowin' my pride standin' in front of you sayin' I'm sorry for that night / And I go back to December all the time," and, "These days, I haven't been sleepin' / Stayin' up playin' back myself leavin' / When your birthday passed and I didn't call..." It also includes a line that many assume references the night Kanye West stormed the VMA stage to take the microphone from Swift back in 2009: "And how you held me in your arms that September night, the first time you ever saw me cry."

Lautner even recently admitted that if he could go back to any point in time, it would be to that night, as he first thought the interaction between Swift and West was a pre-planned bit for the broadcast.

While he was only a couple of feet away from Swift, he couldn't really hear what was going on. “I’m just assuming this whole thing was a practiced and rehearsed skit, because why else would Kanye West be jumping on the stage interrupting Taylor Swift? It just didn’t make sense.”

He then noted, "And if you look back at it, I'm actually caught, like, laughing and giggling at him. I'm like, 'I can't hear them but this is probably really funny right now.'"

Of course, as soon as he caught a glimpse of Swift's face, he knew it was no joke.
