Taylor Lautner Posted A Viral TikTok Where He’s Quite Literally Praying For John Mayer, And It’s Left People Calling Him Taylor Swift’s “Best Ex”

If you’re a fan of Taylor Swift, you’re likely counting down the days until her third rerecorded album, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), is released.
Swift tweeted on May 5, “It fills me with such pride and joy to announce that my version of Speak Now will be out July 7.” She also revealed that the new project will include six extra songs.
It fills me with such pride and joy to announce that my version of Speak Now will be out July 7 (just in time for July 9th, iykyk 😆) I first made Speak Now, completely self-written, between the ages of 18 and 20. Of course, Speak Now (2010) famously features songs about two of Swift’s exes in particular: Taylor Lautner and John Mayer.
Lautner, whom Swift dated briefly back in 2009, was honored quite favorably on the track “Back to December.” In fact, Swift actually sings lyrics like, “This is me swallowing my pride / Standing in front of you saying I'm sorry for that night,” suggesting that she was apologetic for how she acted at points during their relationship.
Mayer, on the other hand, wasn’t quite painted in the same light. The infamous track “Dear John” featured lyrics like, “Dear John, I see it all, now it was wrong / Don't you think 19 is too young / To be played by your dark, twisted games, when I loved you so? / I should've known.” Swift was 19 when the pair were linked in late 2009, while Mayer was 32.
Mayer publicly condemned the song a couple of years after its release, telling Rolling Stone that it was a “lousy thing” on Swift’s part that left him “humiliated.” He also labeled her songwriting “cheap,” though he went on to release a pointed track of his own, titled “Paper Doll,” just a year later.
Fast-forward to 2022, and Swift seemingly addressed the past relationship again in her song “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve,” in which she appears to express regret over dating an older man when she was 19.
“I would've stayed on my knee / And I damn sure never would've danced with the devil / At 19,” she sings, before later adding, “Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first.”
As fans will know, the supposed subjects of Swift’s songs often face heaps of scrutiny when her rerecorded albums come out. Take Jake Gyllenhaal, for example. The actor, who is the subject of Swift’s heartbreaking song “All Too Well,” faced a swarm of criticism when the track was rereleased on Red (Taylor’s Version) last year — to the point where he’s still being dragged at her current Eras Tour.

And so, when it was announced that Swift was releasing her version of Speak Now, several internet users expressed their fear for Mayer — including Lautner himself.
After calling Speak Now "a great album" earlier this week, Lautner said of the upcoming rerecorded version, “I feel safe...praying for John.”
Lautner’s brief comment quickly garnered a wave of attention online, with several Swift fans labeling him “the best of the best.”

And now Lautner has doubled down on his stance with a new TikTok.
Posting a short clip to the page he shares with his wife, who is also named Taylor Lautner, the actor literally got down on his knees and clasped his hands together in prayer. “#prayforjohn,” he captioned the video.

And to make things even more pointed, Lautner actually used Swift’s “Dear John” in the background of the TikTok.
Needless to say, fans found the entire thing hilarious.
“TAYLOR SUPPORTING TAYLOR IN THE FUNNIEST WAY POSSIBLE,” one person commented under the video. “PLEASE THIS IS THE FUNNIEST THING I’VE SEEN IN A WHILE,” said another.
Several fans then went on to discuss how they think Lautner is the “best ex” Swift has — a title that he’s held for a while among fans.

On the other hand, some people questioned why Lautner was actively encouraging a wave of hate toward Mayer — especially given that Mayer has received death threats and harsh messages from Swift fans in the past.
“with every album it's a another dude getting targeted and that's not at least a bit weird to y'all??” one tweet read. “This is so weird,” said another.

Meanwhile, some people speculated that Lautner might know something about Speak Now (TV) that we don’t.
“does he know something we don't 👀,” one person tweeted. “at this point i am convinced that he knows something about speak now tv album that we probably don’t know yet,” said another.
