Taron Egerton is fast proving he can do pretty much anything. He's played Eddie the Eagle, Robin Hood, and Elton John — and according to the Hollywood rumor machine, he's the current favorite to play Wolverine now that the X-Men characters have been brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a recent appearance on Heart FM in the United Kingdom, Egerton responded to reports that he'll be the next actor to take up the adamantium claws. Unfortunately, it's a no right now — but he remains open to becoming part of the MCU in the future.

"That one I think is just a rumor," he said. "As far as I’m aware it’s unfounded. I don’t know if I’m quite grisly enough. I mean if the people at Marvel think I am then great, let’s go. But I think there are probably better candidates. But I would love to be involved with that world somewhere."

The role of Wolverine, a.k.a. Logan, was made famous by Hugh Jackman, who first played the character in 1999's X-Men. He went on to play him again in X2, X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past, as well as starring in three standalone spinoffs: X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine, and the critically acclaimed Logan.

While Egerton won't be donning a superhero costume for the time being, his Rocketman co-star Richard Madden has his sights set on the MCU. He's rumored to be in talks to play Ikaris in The Eternals, about a race of immortal, cosmically powered super-beings. Angelina Jolie and Kumail Nanjiani have also been linked to the movie, which promises to be an Avengers-style lynchpin in Marvel's epic fourth phase.
