Taron Egerton, Cynthia Erivo, and Aldis Hodge sing their favorite karaoke songs to roaring applause
The Santa Barbara Film Festival honored eight talented actors on Sunday as part of their yearly Virtuoso Award group, in recognition for their noteworthy performances in their respective films. With three: Rocketman‘s Taron Egerton, Harriet‘s Cynthia Erivo, and Clemency‘s Aldis Hodge, using part of their panel discussion time to sing some of their favorite tunes at karaoke.
Hodge got his peers going with his nearly perfect rendition of Kanye West and Jamie Foxx‘s 2005 hit “Gold Digger.”
“I’m kind of ashamed,” Hodge said when asked what his go-to karaoke song is before breaking into song. His fellow honorees, also including Awkwafina (The Farewell), Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart), George MacKay (1917), Florence Pugh (Little Women), and Taylor Russell (Waves), excitedly urged him to keep singing when he’d stop.
Erivo was convinced next to sing her favorite karaoke hit, “We Don’t Need Another Hero” by Tina Turner as the Booksmart star melted into her seat in admiration. After a couple of verses, Erivo was met by roaring applause from the audience and her fellow honorees.
“This is the best day of my life,” Feldstein, who sat between Hodge and Erivo, said.
Egerton needed a little convincing to also belt out a few lyrics from his favorite karaoke song, George Michael’s “Faith.”
“You can’t follow Cynthia Erivo…ok, maybe you can,” he said in a very cheeky tone before singing.
