Target Acquires Platform to Same-Day Ship Beauty Products

For Target at least, 2017 was a banger year. As if you needed more reasons to love the retailer, its beloved beauty section got a series of major upgrades. In February, Target announced a pledge to sustainable, eco-friendly beauty. In March, it followed up by making our favorite drugstore beauty buys even cheaper. And finally, let's not forget the introduction of a robust K-beauty section thanks to a partnership with Glow Recipe.
Now, the brand has even more good news to stoke your obsession with their beauty aisles: It's just acquired same-day shipping company Shipt, which means beauty goodies delivered to your door by the time you get home from work.
Here's what the partnership means for you: Target will be able to leverage Shipt's proprietary technology and existing community of shoppers to get your order delivered same day, reports WWD.
It will work sort of like Amazon Now. Rather than placing an order and waiting for it to be fished out of a warehouse and punched into the postal system, Shipt taps a network of more than 20,000 personal shoppers in 72 markets to grab your goods and get them to you within hours. It's like having your own personal assistant dedicated to doing your Target runs.
The convenience will come at a cost — $99 per year, according to WWD. The program is expected to roll out in half of all Target stores early 2018 and will be in all major markets by the end of the year.
According to the experts, this is the start of a major shift in the way we get online deliveries. Waiting even two days for Prime or Flash shipping is about to become a thing of the past as deals like Target's become more mainstream. "Same-day delivery will soon be par for the course in the same way that free two-day shipping and buy-online-pick-up-in-store has become standard," Ray Young, a retail analyst at Gordon Haskett Research Advisors, told WWD.
In other words, look out, Amazon.
