Tarek El Moussa says he’s the healthiest he’s ever been and has one person to thank for it: fiancée Heather Rae Young. The Flip or Flop star appeared with Young on Dear Media's latest Not Skinny But Fat podcast to dish on their relationship and how it has cultivated better habits for him.

Now if you've ever watched Selling Sunset, you may recall that Young is vegan. Not Skinny But Fat host Amanda Hirsch asked El Moussa if his fiancée's diet had ever influenced him to also go vegan. "She tried when we first met and I went down to like a 107 pounds," he told Hirsch, to which she responded "no, you didn't." (Note: It is unclear whether 107 pounds was an exaggeration or El Moussa's actual weight at the time).

El Moussa then began to reflect on the the early days of their relationship. The 39-year-old revealed that he pretended to be vegan in order to impress Young. "I started starving myself because I didn't know what to eat," he recalled. "So I was like, 'Hey everybody, I'm a vegan now. I don't know what to eat.'" El Moussa noted that the only times he would eat was when Young would feed him. "I was, like, withering away," he said.

He eventually cut the act and resumed eating animal-based products and meat. However, some of Young’s habits did rub off on him for the better. "She makes me take a bunch of vitamins. She makes me eat healthy. She makes me go to the gym," he told Hirsch, adding that currently "I'm the healthiest I've ever been because of this."

Young, who is also a former pilates instructor and current Tru Supplements ambassador, chimed in to share how she and El Moussa have since compromised when it comes to mealtime. "We do a mix, like a vegan sausage and I'll do a real egg for him with veggies. Then I'll do a burrito for him," she said, noting that while he's somewhat returned to his former eating habits, he'll continue to enjoy meat analogues and plant-based dishes with her.

While going full-on vegan may not have been the diet that worked best for El Moussa, we're glad to hear that the experience led him to his best health (props to Heather for helping him foster better habits!). The dad-of-two, who was diagnosed with both testicular cancer and thyroid cancer in 2013, has been in remission since 2018.
