'Tar' Fans Missed Cate Blanchett Expertly Handle Being Photobombed at the 2023 Oscars

Cate Blanchett may have not won an award during the 2023 Oscars, but she still managed to draw attention without needing to give a speech.

After attending the 95th Academy Awards vying for Best Actress, the Tár lead showed up at the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscars party to celebrate her fellow nominees. Walking the blue carpet in the same dress she wore for the ceremony, Cate stopped to take some photos with her co-star Todd Field to the delight of those photographing the star-studded event.

But shortly after the duo posed for the cameras, Variety caught Cate expertly handle a situation she didn't see coming. As she continued taking pictures, The Fabelmans star Gabriel LaBelle got behind her to photobomb the picture-perfect moment with two thumbs up. Watch the scene below at the 22-second mark:

But instead of reacting to his sneak attack, she chose to subtly acknowledge the incident when the cameras turned off. A behind-the-scenes photo later revealed that Cate gave her own two thumbs up when she finished posing.

When footage of the interaction began going viral on Twitter, fans couldn't get over seeing how the two reacted to one another in front of photographers. They proceeded to share their thoughts on the platform.

"Haha dork," one person tweeted about Gabriel ruining Cate's photo. "One thing about him is that he will photobomb everyone he can. Like he only has [one] mission during awards season," another user noted. "I NEED THIS PICTURE," a different user added.

Despite Cate seeming totally unfazed by Gabriel's attempt to distract, she has a good reason for doing so. She's been known to cause her own commotion once in a while, accidentally photobombing former Carol co-star Rooney Mara at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January 2016. So, it makes sense that when someone does it back to her, she wouldn't necessarily let it bother her.
