Tampa police investigating after incident involving car registered to DeSean Jackson
Tampa police impounded a car registered to Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver DeSean Jackson on Sunday night, after the abandoned vehicle was found off a road and apparently had struck a tree.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo obtained the police report.
Officers arrived at the scene of the single-car crash on West Shore Boulevard in the city and found the Chevy Silverado; the driver was not with the truck.
Police discovered the vehicle was registered to Jackson, and also reported finding 6.3 grams of marijuana and two .38 caliber hollow point bullets in the car.
Possession of under 20 grams of marijuana is a misdemeanor in Florida, and hollow point bullets are legal.
Police contacted Jackson, and he responded to the scene, though the police report says he was not cooperative at first. He did give officers the name of the alleged driver, but a source told Garafolo that Jackson declined to help officers get the driver back to the scene of the crash.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Jackson representative Denise White told Garafolo, “It was a friend of DeSean’s who borrowed his car while he was out of town. None of what was in the car was his obviously. He’s dealing with the person that was using it without his knowledge privately. The incident is being handled.”
The Buccaneers did not comment.
Jackson did not play in Tampa Bay’s Christmas Eve loss to the Panthers in Charlotte due to an ankle injury. He did return to practice on Wednesday, and was limited.
