Tamera Mowry-Housely opens up about mental health, body image journey: ‘I still have a ways to go’

Tamera Mowry-Housely is reminding her followers to practice self-love.

On Friday, the 42-year-old actress posted a laidback selfie wearing a leopard print jumpsuit and large silver hoops with her hair pulled up in a bun. In the caption, she opened up about her struggles with body image and mental health.

“Y’all, I have worked HARD to get my body, mind and spirit to a place where I am proud and at peace I still have a ways to go. But I will tell you this though: It’s not about the number on the scale. It’s about loving yourself and showing up over and over again. For anyone out there who is feeling stuck, off their routine or lacking motivation, just keep going/swimming. HA! Show up for yourself in some small way today and then do it again tomorrow and then again the days after that. It will get easier! #selflove #selfcare #workouts,” she wrote.

Fans took to the comments to praise Mowry-Housely for her transparency.

“I needed to hear this, thank you,” a fan said.

“Thank you for the encouraging words Tamera! Stay safe and stay blessed,” someone wrote.

“Thank you i needed this Tamera i really did. I felt myself slipping and now im catching me and doing it for me. Not for the scale,” one person continued.

Mowry-Housely has been open about wellness and the importance of fitness in her life. In October, The Talk alum told People that working out had helped her amid the pandemic.

“When we all had to be quarantined for so long, I really discovered the importance of diving back into exercising now that I had the time," she admitted at the time. "I'm a huge believer in making lemonade out of lemons, so I wanted to use the time wisely...I discovered that when I worked out and when I moved my body, I felt better. I felt better about myself, not only physically but mentally.”
