It was yet another star-studded evening in California on Sunday, as the industry’s most respected entertainers stepped out for the 21st annual Hollywood Film Awards. Taking place at the Beverly Hills Hotel, the ceremony benefitted the Motion Picture & Television Fund — a charitable organization dedicated to providing various resources amongst the entertainment community — and was hosted by James Corden for the third year in a row.
With so many great shows on TV during the last year, there were a lot of great costumes. Here are some memorable moments and designs from the Emmy nominees.
The finale of Big Little Lies was an emotional, twisted doozy, and an affirmation of deep female friendship that withstands insane odds. Now-widowed Celeste Wright (Nicole Kidman) closed out the show cavorting on the beach with the other moms. For the first time, we saw her showing actual skin, now that her abusive husband is dead after a fortuitously timed push down the stairs.
Nicole Kidman is a shoo-in for an Emmy nomination, and likely a win for her searingly understated, quietly anguished portrayal of an abused wife in Big Little Lies. The finale to the buzzy HBO series, co-starring Reese Witherspoon as the town scandalmonger and Shailene Woodley as a mysterious single mother raising a child of rape, will air Sunday night.
Shailene Woodley might want to consider the Morton County Jail for her next photo shoot. The actress was arrested on Monday for criminal trespassing while protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline in Bismarck, N.D. In the mugshot released after her arrest, not one hair is out of place, and her skin looks flawless under that harsh fluorescent light.
With an all-star cast that includes Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, Ashley Judd, Octavia Spencer, Zoe Kravitz, and Suki Waterhouse, it is of little surprise that The Divergent Series: Insurgent premiere was as blockbuster as the film itself. Insurgent’s plotline is filled with drama and intrigue, just like the stars’ outfits at the NYC debut. All eyes were on Woodley, who wore a black Ralph Lauren Collection halter-top maxi dress with a plunging top and dramatic slip. (Ever the happy hippie, she ditched her lace Stuart Weitzman heels after strolling the carpet.)
Shailene Woodley knows what acting's all about. "I'm totally comfortable with nudity," she told Glamour UK in the magazine's April issue. Kate Moss, Beyonc?, Jennifer Aniston, and more have all taken their tops off (but left their pants on) for photoshoots.
Personal style is constantly evolving. If celebrities’ are indeed just like us, then the way they dress can improve over time. Through a new stylist, a new best friend, or even an a-list project boost, this year, stars showed there’s always room for improvement on the red carpet. Here are nine celebs who get an A for effort
Two-thousand fourteen was a year-long debate among female celebrities about what feminism was and how it effected their lives. Miriam Weeks defends her choice to work in porn to afford her tuition. Take the fallout from the photo hack of celebrity nudes last September, where we all got to get a look Kirsten Dunst, Kate Upton, and Jennifer Lawrence’s pubic grooming regime.
