How would you describe your mood most of the time: cheerful, perky, grumpy or angry?

Now let me ask the question differently: How do you feel most of the time? Are you energetic, tired, hyper or just blaaaah?

The way you feel physically and emotionally often determines your mood. To keep you in a happy place, here are tips to lift your body, mind, and spirit:

  • Laugh More - Spend time with goofy friends, go to a comedy show or watch a slap stick classic. Laughter increases endorphins (the body's natural feel good chemical). So, instead of picking up a cocktail, try laughing until your stomach hurts.

  • Exercise Daily - Exercise has many benefits, but a biggie is that it can improve your sleep patterns making you less irritable. Another bonus is that exercise helps to decrease anxiety as well.

  • Eat Better - Pancakes with butter and syrup, hot fudge sundaes with the works, and let's not forget the apple martinis - these are "comfort foods" that we love, but they don't love us. To put pep in your step, stay away from foods with a lot of sugar and refined flour, which can send your blood sugar levels - and your mood--on a roller coaster ride.

  • Meditate or Schedule Quiet Time - Calming your mind and centering allows you to gain balance and to decompress. If you have a busy life, demanding job or stressful household, they can all undermine your happiness. Mediation is just one tool to help.

  • Get a Pet - Pets provide constant and loyal companionship, which can help boost your mood. Have you ever walked into an empty house with a happily anxious dog just waiting at the front door for you? It is such a great feeling.

The biggest tip of all is to TAKE CARE OF YOU!

If you treat your body well, surround yourself with people you enjoy, keep your mind active, and reduce your stress, you will have a happier and healthier life!
