5 Things to Know About Miss USA 2014 Nia Sanchez
by Megan Angelo

While all us theater nerds were watching NPH kill it on the Tonys last night, girls from all around this great land were vying for the title of Miss USA 2014, just across the dial. When it was all said and done, 24-year-old Nevada resident Nia Sanchez was the last beauty standing. Here are five things to know about the new queen:
She's the first Nevadan to ever win the title. In 62 years, the Silver State has never captured the title.
She's a fourth-degree black belt in taekwondo. I like to think this will make Miss Universe owner Donald Trump think twice about pushing her around.

She lived in a women's shelter when she was younger. Sanchez and her mother lived in the shelter when she was eight, which led to Sanchez's passion for women's self-defense and her own martial-arts study.
Sanchez, a Mexican-American, is the fourth Hispanic woman to win the pageant. That's after Laura Herring in 1985, Lynette Cole in 2000, and Susie Castillo in 2003.
She eats. She eats things like this frozen cheesecake cone from her Instagram page, which made me want to eat my computer when I saw it.
