I describe my fitness level as: Moderately fit, but prone to injury with neck, back and knee issues.
I exercise: Regularly three times a week. I take Pilates Reformer classes twice a week and a Pilates mat class once a week. My goal for 2012 is to add two to three days of cardio workouts to my routine.
My usual reaction to fitness DVDs is: Very positive! I've always loved working out in the privacy of my own home. DVDs along with Wii fitness games have been my go-to workout choice.
Kettlebell workout DVD with Bob Harper
On a scale of barely sweat to totally-kick-butt, this workout: Gets your heart pumping!
The equipment I needed was: Included with the DVD - a 7 pound kettlebell, which is the right size for a woman who is new to this type of workout. More experienced people may want to try a heavier weight. You should also wear sneakers, preferably cross trainers.
The next day I felt: Slightly sore, but invigorated. I also felt amazing afterwards!
The instructor was: Wonderful! I love Bob Harper. He's my secret fitness crush.
I'd recommend this DVD to: Anyone who's looking for a cardio workout, but who has to avoid jumping up and down due to knee, ankle or back issues. While Bob does make you do a few jumping jacks, you can modify that exercise easily by moving your legs side to side. Also, this 30 minute DVD workout is perfect those who are new to kettleball workouts.
I would do this workout again! In fact, I'm going to order some of Bob's other kettlebell DVDs right now!
Jackie Werner Crunch-Free Xtreme Abs
On a scale of barely sweat to totally-kick-butt, this workout is: Challenging. For a core workout, it actually gives you a great cardio workout.
The equipment I needed was: Sneakers and a floor. If you're not working out on carpet, use a yoga mat.
The next day I felt: A little sore, like my abs went through a decent workout.
The instructor was: Great. I'm a fan of Jackie and her abs are KILLER! She maintains a good energy level throughout the workout.
I'd recommend this DVD to: Anyone who's looking for a quick, easy-to-do ab routine to add to their overall workout schedule.
I would do this workout again: Because it's convenient (only 20 minutes) and works out my core. I would use it on days where I wanted to workout but didn't have much time.
Zumba Fitness Total Body Transformation System
On a scale of barely sweat to totally-kick-butt, this workout is: Moderately challenging cardio wise, but difficult if you're not much of a dancer.
The equipment I needed was: Included in the box - two Zumba toning sticks. I also found that doing Zumba on a carpet was awkward when I was wearing my sneakers, so I did the workout barefoot. If you have wooden floors, sneakers or dance shoes would be better.
The next day I felt: Invigorated.
The instructors were: High-energy and explained things well.
I'd recommend this DVD to: People who love to dance as their main form of exercise and love Latin music.
I would not do this workout again: As I felt silly and uncoordinated trying to keep up with the dancers. Face it, I'm not Dancing with the Stars material. Plus, I'm not into Latin music and found it annoying.
INSANITY Fast & Furious: 20 Minute Maximum Fitness Results Workout
On a scale of barely sweat to totally-kick-butt, this workout is: Totally-kick-butt…and more. This is for people in top fitness shape - or Marines just out of boot camp!
The equipment I needed was: Sneakers…and a lot of stamina.
The next day I felt: I didn't try it once I saw the introductory warning that the workout was NOT for people with back, knee or neck issues.
The instructor was: High energy and very handsome!
I'd recommend this DVD to: People who are into extreme fitness routines like P90X.
I would not do this workout again: As it's beyond my abilities.
