I describe my fitness level as: Beginner.
I exercise: Almost never, unless you count chasing a toddler around all day long in a two-story house.
My usual reaction to fitness DVDs is: Positive.
On a scale of barely sweat to totally-kick-butt, this workout is: Fun and it definitely gets your heart rate going. I got a little sweaty, but I wasn't drenched in sweat. I love to dance and this seems to be what Zumba basically is, a series of different dance steps from different cultures (mostly of the Latin culture). Zumba wasn't much different from one of my Puerto Rican family parties.
The equipment I needed was: Just Me. There are some fun shakers included in the Zumba kit, but you didn't have to use them for the workout.
The next day I felt: Good, I didn't experience any pain afterwards.
The instructor was: Fun. There were rotating instructors and they all had a fun flare to them.
I'd recommend this DVD to: Anyone. It's fun and upbeat and a good work-out. Some of the steps may be difficult to do, especially if you are not a dancer, but there is 60 minutes on the DVD that is purely dedicated to teaching you all the steps, so it is very user-friendly.
I would do this workout again!
Bob Harper Contour Kettlebell: Body Shred Workout
On a scale of barely sweat to totally-kick-butt, this workout is: Challenging because it requires you to use a 7 lb. kettlebell, which really intensifies the workout.
The equipment I needed was: 7 lb. kettlebell, which came with the DVD, so it was convenient that it didn't need to be bought separately.
The next day I felt: A little discomfort, like I strained my knee. I feel that even though the instructor talks about body form on the DVD, it is easy for a beginner like myself to get out of the correct form. Since there wasn't a real life trainer there to correct me, I believe there was a higher risk of potential injury (for instance pulling a muscle or something along those lines), especially using a weight, such as the kettlebell.
The instructor was: Knowledgeable, but not fun.
I'd recommend this DVD to: Someone who is experienced in working out with weights like the kettlebell.
I would not do this workout again.
20-Minute INSANE Workout Fast & Furious
On a scale of barely sweat to totally-kick-butt, this workout could: KILL YOU! Seriously, there is even a disclaimer at the beginning of this workout DVD that's kind of scary. However, I'm alive and well to tell you how it went for me, and that was that it kicked my butt BIG TIME. This workout is indeed INSANE, but in a good way if you have the fitness level to keep up. I could not even complete the full 20 minutes, I was exhausted half way through and sweating like crazy. I give props to anyone who can complete this workout DVD.
The equipment I needed was: Just me, but a more "fit" me.
The next day I felt: Surprisingly good. I slept well the night that I did the workout. The next day I wasn't in any pain, my muscles just felt a little tired.
The instructor was: HOT! He even instructs you without his shirt on, this alone is motivating.
I'd recommend this DVD to: The advance fitness guru who has a busy life and needs a "Fast and Furious" workout.
I would do this workout again when my fitness level is higher.
Personal Training With Jackie: Crunch-Free XTREME ABS
On a scale of barely sweat to totally-kick-butt, this workout will: Kick your butt, but is doable.
The equipment I needed was: Two small weights, but if you didn't have them they had a moderated version that you could do without the weights.
The next day I felt: Sore in my abs. My core muscles felt a bit tight, but I think that's a good thing!
The instructor was: Motivational and like-able too.
I'd recommend this DVD to: Anyone. I think the workout was challenging, but still user-friendly to a beginner like me.
I would do this workout again.
