It seems the Duchess of Cambridge's absence at Tuesday's charity dinner at Windsor Castle may have ruffled Ralph Lauren's feathers.
The American designer, who jetted to London for the event, where he unveiled the Ralph Lauren Breast Cancer Centre, had invited the Duchess to the star-studded dinner for the Royal Marsden cancer center, of which her husband Prince William is patron.

According to the Daily Mail, the Duchess informed organizers she would not be attending-sending the organizers into something of a panic.
"Ralph Lauren had been expecting Kate and was very upset when she said she wasn't coming," claims a source.
While a palace courtier insists the Duchess was never due to go to the event, Royal Watch has been told that an e-mail from the fashion house might have been the fly in the ointment. "There were a lot of requests and demands, like where the Duchess would sit and who she should talk to, which might not have gone down too well," reports an insider.

According to reports, Ralph Lauren, who invested up to $2 million into the charity, threatened to pull the plug on the event, but was persuaded that it should go ahead.
William certainly appeared grateful, telling Lauren on the evening; "I'm sorry my wife's not here, you probably would far rather you saw my wife."
"Not at all," Lauren replied graciously.
His spokesman insists there are no hard feelings, saying, "Mr. Lauren has only ever been enthusiastic about attending the event."
Cate Blanchett and catwalk queen Kate Moss led the star line-up instead of the Duchess. Perhaps it was simply a case of too many Kates?
