Levi's Body-shaping Jeans Are Latest Denim Innovation

Perfect jeans

will simultaneous hide and emphasize all the right areas, from visually slimming your waist to boosting your butt. Levi's Curve ID collection is one such line specifically designed to highlight and play up your assets. Now the brand is attempting to one-up itself with their new Revel denim line, which claims to actually alter the wearer's shape.

15 Everyday Tricks for Looking and Staying Slim

Capitalizing on the popularity of shapewear, a new liquid technology in the Revel jeans supposedly hugs and supports your body to creating a leaner, more-toned physique. When the chemical is applied to the inside of four-way stretch denim it reportedly creates a Spanx-like effect without the intense, uncomfortable squeezing.

Best jeans for every body type

"Levi's Revel takes that curve innovation one step further by actively shaping a woman's body, giving her the legs and butt she always wanted," Jill Guenza, Levi's vice president of women's design, said in a press release. Guenza elaborated to Women's Wear Daily, saying, "it controls the stretch in those areas, much as compressionwear does. But rather than using visible reinforced panels, we use the application of the liquid-stretch technology. The result is a jean that carves out the inner thigh, slims and smooths the outer thigh, lifts the seat and flattens the tummy."

This technology is not the only trick up Levi's' pant leg. To further enhance the slimming effect, the brand employed techniques used by the late, great celebrity makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin, for help with the placement of seams and whispering details. "We looked at Kevyn Aucoin's books and how he made cheekbones look higher or noses look smaller," Guenza, told WWD. "The seams we applied to our jeans act in concert to make the leg look longer and slimmer, the seat perkier and to move the eye away from the hips."

This all sounds impressive, but it's hard not to be skeptical about supposed "miracle jeans" that continually break our hearts. The Revel line will hit the web on August 4, and then to stores internationally. We'll be first in line to try them, so stay tuned for our comprehensive review. The jeans are being made in indigo and black washes in three current Curve ID styles-slight, demi, and bold, depending on your desired level of shape enhancement. They'll all be available in both skinny and straight leg silhouettes and will retail for $98 to $128.

While Levi's technology may not be available yet, there are many other flattering denim style that promise similar body-shaping qualities. Yummie Tummie - Founder Heather Thomson may be one of the "Real Housewives," but she's a real designer first and foremost. The denim line, which launched in 2011, has a slightly higher rise and touts a stretch that "lifts and shapes, and never bags or sags." Price range is $98 to $108.

SkinnyJeans - Scooped out legs help separate your thighs (less chaffing!), while inseams are darkened and drawn forward to create the illusion of slimmer legs.
