A Shelter Puppy Named Cupid Gets a Life-Saving Surgery and Warms Our Hearts

This past Valentine's Day, a precious 3-month-old hound puppy found abandoned in a snowbank was picked up by the Ruff Start Rescue of Minneapolis, MD. The staff at the shelter named him Cupid, not just for saving him on the February 14th holiday, but because he was overly affectionate with just about everyone despite what he'd been through.

Cupid's front paws were severely malformed. Though he could hobble and jump using the outside of his legs, it wouldn't be long before more complications would arise. The staff hoped to raise $6,000 for surgery that would help the little dog walk properly. Thanks to a local news report and the kindness of animal lovers across the country, they raised $8,000 in just a matter of days!

Veterinarians at the University of Minnesota performed the surgery last week, and Cupid is now recovering at a foster home. The dog that was once abandoned by his owner now has the pick of the litter -- over 75 different parties have inquired about adopting Cupid once he's fully recovered.

"The outpouring support has been absolutely amazing," says Ruff Start Rescue's founder Azure Davis. "So many have donated, offered to donate, wanted to adopt, dog-sit, you name it. People want to help this little guy!"
