  • A Brief History of First Kids’ Fashion

On Friday in Washington, D.C., Donald Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States. And while Trump’s own sartorial savvy has been questioned by some, let’s be honest: Barring an outrageous faux pas (or, you know, a Scotch-taped tie), there’s just not a whole lot to say about a guy in a suit. It’s one of the reasons we’d much rather talk about first lady style, or first kids’ style. While presidents and first ladies are constricted in their style choices by custom and ethics, first kids, especially in recent decades, have a relative amount of freedom to, well, be kids. Just see Ron Reagan’s totally ’80s feathered hair, Amy Carter’s super-’70s gingham sundresses, Chelsea Clinton’s Lilith Fair-ready floral dresses, and Sasha and Malia Obama’s on-trend love of chokers and skater dresses.Ahead, we take a look at what Trump’s children wore to his inauguration, plus a look back at some of the most stylish first kids of all time.

The Obama women may be getting ready to pack up their wardrobes to leave the White House, but their fashion is still fresh. • The Style Evolutions of Sasha and Malia Obama

By Glamour. Photos: Getty Images. It's hard to believe Sasha and Malia Obama—the sweet little girls in brightly colored coats watching their dad get sworn in back in 2009—are now 18 and 15 and have lived in the White House for eight years. They've grown tremendously during their time as part of the first family and emerged as smart, down-to-earth girls. (Malia interned on the set of Lena Dunham's Girls, took the SATs, and revealed she'd be taking a gap year before heading to her dad's alma mater, Harvard. Sasha spent the summer working the takeout window at a Martha's Vineyard restaurant.) They've also developed a solid sense of style, graduating from (adorable) matching overcoats and patent leather shoes to pieces by cool- teen-approved brands like Nasty Gal, ASOS, and Opening Ceremony. As we prepare to say goodbye to the first family, we look back at some the Obama sisters' most memorable looks. This story originally appeared on Glamour. The Obamas had their final Christmas-tree lighting on the Ellipse in President’s Park last night, and of course, the first family showed up in style. • Michelle Obama and Queen Letizia of Spain Stroll Together in Stunning Dresses

After bringing her Let Girls Learn initiative to Europe last summer, Michelle Obama is continuing to draw attention to adolescent education. Her latest efforts involve a three-nation trip to shed light on the millions of girls around the world who are not in school. On Monday, the first lady, who brought along her daughters, Sasha, 15, and Malia, 17, and mother Marian Robinson, landed in Libera. “This is the special girl-power unit of the Obama household,” she said. “We left the president behind because he’s a boy.” Wearing an abstract floral print dress, the family was welcomed to the Western African country with a red carpet and traditional dancers. Following the announcement that the United States would be providing $27 million in aid for the expansion of the Let Girls Learn Peace Corps program in the country as well as meeting with Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the first elected female head of state in Africa, the Obamas moved on to Morocco. On the second leg of the first family’s tour, they were met by Frieda Pinto and Meryl Streep for a panel discussion moderated by CNN’s Isha Sesay in Marrakesh and delivered even more money to help some of the 62 million girls worldwide lacking access to formal education. The last part of the six-day trip will be in Spain, where FLOTUS will deliver a speech. The message she’s trying to get across is this: “You have the power, right now, to step up and be a champion for those 62 million girls who aren’t in school. You have everything you need right now to raise awareness about their stories and to support their efforts to get an education.”Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest for nonstop inspiration delivered fresh to your feed, every day.

  • How to Steal Sasha Obama’s Style

Sasha Obama was just 7 years old when her father became President. Now, a few months shy of 15, we’ve seen her style has transform with just as much maturity and grace as her father’s growth in the White House. We love Sasha’s ability to switch up her style, from clean lines and feminine silhouettes, to casual basics. Sasha can be seen sporting a ladylike overcoat one day, and an easy-breezy denim skirt and sweater ensemble the next. She’s versatile, while always being age-appropriate — with signs of an older, more sophisticated Sasha Obama emerging at events like her first-ever state dinner, which she attended just last month in a stunning Naeem Khan gown. We’ve rounded up some of Sasha’s best looks that you can shop from all American designers.
