In a short "Sunday sermon" video posted to Instagram yesterday, Sylvester Stallone, who recently finished filming the fourth movie in the Expendables franchise, shared an update on another project that is very near and dear to him: the limited theatrical release of his director's cut of Rocky IV.

Stallone wrote and directed the 1985 movie as well as playing the eponymous boxer, and worked on his "reimagining", now titled Rocky vs. Drago, during his pandemic-induced downtime. He shared a look at the trailer for the director's cut on social media in October, giving audiences a taste of both the highly polished, remastered footage, and never-before-seen deleted scenes which have been reinserted into the narrative—and now he can't wait for fans to see the finished product.

"I woke up this morning feeling extra good, because I started to think about what's going to happen in about two and a half weeks," he said in the video. "The Rocky IV re-cut is going to come out in Philadelphia, let's see, the 11th of November."

He went on to describe what a meaningful—and rare—experience it was to go back and get a second chance at a project like this, and how he was surprised by how much the intervening years have changed who he is as a filmmaker, and how he enjoyed the chance to apply this new sense of perspective to one of his past movies.

"[It's] something I'm very excited about, because in your life you rarely get a chance to go back and fix things, or reimagine things," he said. "This time, I was afforded the opportunity, and I thank MGM for that, to do just that. And I realized how much not just the world had changed, of course I had changed. The way I see things today isn't necessarily the way I saw them back around 1985."
