They paired perfectly with her birthday theme.

Retro hair has been all the rage these days. The mullet made its unbelievable reentry to the zeitgeist, becoming Gen Z's go-to cool-person haircut, even making its way onto the head of Julia Fox for fashion week. '80s mall bangs came back, as have numerous other disco-era staples like banana clips, crimped hair, and—possibly the most surprising of them all—the perm which Sydney Sweeney just wore at her '80s prom themed birthday party.

Sweeney is a known aficionado of the throwback hairstyle. She's worn Pamela Anderson updo on more than one occasion, has done a modern take on '80s mall bangs, plus has tried a peak '90s hairstyle, "The Rachel," once or twice. Now, though, she is fully indulging her love for all things retro by throwing a huge '80s party.

To celebrate her 26th, Sweeney and Revolve threw a prom-themed party in Los Angeles straight out of 16 Candles, where the only requirement for her famous attendees—including AnittaCamila MendesNicola Peltz-Beckham, Lukas Gage, Dylan Mulvaney, and Alexandra Shipp—was looking straight out of Pretty in Pink.

Sweeney obviously took the theme seriously. The HBO muse showed up to her party with the biggest, fluffiest, most beautifully dramatic perm we have ever seen, with her blonde hair in a side part where each of her strands were curled to '80s perfection—with volume, texture, and bounce for days. Traveling just to her chest, not a single strand was out of place, coordinating precisely with her all-'80s ensemble.

Hairstylist Michelle O'Connor previously told us that getting a perm usually starts "with wrapping straight hair on hair rollers or rods and applying a perm solution on top," but you can also do what's called a digital perm, "which uses temperature-controlled rods and infrared heat to create loose waves and natural volume" in order to change "the hair structure and [reshape] it to take on the curl size of the roller it's been set on."

For the rest of her glam, Sweeney was the embodiment of '80s maximalism, wearing hot pink and bright blue shimmery eyeshadow and liner. She paired the eyes with glossy pink lips, some light blush, and a hot pink outfit.

She was literally pretty in pink, wearing a ruffly, poofy, silky pink minidress with rose-shaped shoulder pads, a corseted top, and a tutu-like skirt. She accessorized the look with a Self Portrait Capri Micro Bag ($480), Nalebe Dimante Slingback heels ($750), Elizabeth Cole Ariana Earrings ($138), and Elizabeth Cole Danika Necklace ($375)—all of which were blinged to the gods with dozens of pink gemstones, and perfectly matched the retro opulence of her minidress and larger-than-life perm.
